QUESTION
How can responsible action be encouraged in the healthcare system?
ANSWER
System Upgrade: A hospital grading scheme and learning zone
OVERVIEW
The Blue group had a range of invigorating ideas, so many so that they too had to go with a two-pronged approach. The first was to create a systematised grading system for hospitals through developing a scheme that makes available waiting times and occupancy levels (factors would incorporate the quality of service, waiting times, amenities, number of beds, etc). The service would be available via web, text, and telephone and would also provide information and support to address less serious problems (ie. are you sick or not? – modelled after a programme in France). Government policy would also play an active role in education as well as legislation to deter abuse of the healthcare system.
The second approach is one of avoidance through active engagement and personal care – realised through a learning zone within the hospital to 1) Take care (and possibly avoid return visits) and; 2) Take responsibility (healthy cooking lessons in schools and hospitals, group activities and exercise, resources and information on support networks).
HOW
Through a street guerrilla awareness campaign of course! Aim is to lobby to have stakeholders implement a grading system for hospitals along with a learning zone to avoid coming to the hospital in the first instance.
